The Cyber Hymnal™ is one of the largest and oldest hymnology site on the Internet that provides lyrics, sheet music, audio, in-line music players, maps, biographies and pictures of authors and composers, and is regularly updated. It provides sheet music in PDF and NoteWorthy Composer format, and audio files in MIDI and OGG formats.
The site is non-denominational, non-commercial, ad free, and has a published privacy policy.
The Cyber Hymnal™ was established in November 1996. Its founder, Richard Adams, is also a hymn writer. The site has grown continuously, with additions almost every day. As of August 2026, the Cyber Hymnal™ has over 16,800 entries (master index here), and receives more than 1½ million visitors each year from more than 240 countries.
Until around 2009, the site was at http://www.cyberhymnal.org, but that address is now used by a site not associated with the Cyber Hymnal™.
The Cyber Hymnal™ is searchable, and includes indexes to find entries by title or first line, topic, Bible verse, author or composer, language, and tunes by name or meter.
The vast majority of its material is in the public domain, so most items can be legally downloaded for free. The small number of copyrighted entries are clearly marked, and even many of those allow copying.
The material comes from a wide variety of sources, including a private library, public domain material, and user submissions.
The bulk of the material is in English, but the site also has over 1,400 entries in other languages, including many translations by living authors.
