The pro­mised Star ap­peareth,
The Day­spring from above;
Our souls with light it cheer­eth,
The light of peace and love.
Christ, of a vir­gin born,
With His ce­les­tial bright­ness
Hath turned our night to morn.

O Lord, how con­des­cend­ing,
How mild Thy com­ing now!
But soon, the mount­ains rend­ing,
Thy voice the heav’ns shall bow.
Thou wilt ap­pear again
Upon a throne of glo­ry,
With end­less power to reign.

Lord, let us now re­ceive Thee
Within the will­ing heart,
And ne­ver may we grieve Thee
Nor tempt Thee to de­part.
Thy child­like spir­it give
