Biography

David was the son of Jo­na­than Hump­hreys Wood and Wil­hel­mi­na Hun­son Jones. He mar­ried twice, to Ra­chel E. Laird (1856), and Al­ice M. Bur­dette (1898).

He trained in Phi­la­del­phia at the In­sti­tute for the Blind, and was an in­struct­or there from 1853.

From 1864, he was the or­gan­ist at St. Ste­phen’s Church in Phi­la­del­phia, be­com­ing a noted play­er, teach­er, and com­pos­er. He was known as Pro­fes­sor Wood among his as­so­ci­ates and stu­dents.
