Biography

Franz was the son of Jost Schny­der von War­ten­see. He mar­ried twice: to Ka­ro­line von Her­ten­stein (died 1827), and Jo­se­phine Jahn (mar­ried 1847).

He stu­died mu­sic in Vi­en­na, but set­tled in Frank­furt, Ger­ma­ny, where he taught and com­posed.

He was es­pecial­ly known for his re­cit­als on the glass har­mo­ni­ca. The Schny­der von War­ten­see Foun­da­tion in Zür­ich pub­lished his bio­gra­phy Le­ben­se­rin­ner­ung­en von Xa­ver Schny­der von War­ten­see in 1887.
