Biography

Ambrose was the son of Will­iam Ver­non and Re­bec­ca Peace White, and hus­band of Kathe Tap­pe (marr­ied May 22, 1896, Wer­ni­ger­ode, Sax­ony-An­halt, Ger­ma­ny)

He gra­du­at­ed from Dart­mouth Col­lege, Han­ov­er, New Hamp­shire, in 1907.

He was pas­tor of Har­vard Con­gre­ga­tion­al Church, Brook­line, Mas­sa­chu­setts (as of 1917) and the Con­gre­ga­tion­al Church of Ha­no­ver; Pro­fess­or of Bib­li­cal Li­ter­a­ture, Dart­mouth Col­lege; Pro­fess­or of Bio­gra­phy, Carl­e­ton Col­lege, North­field, Min­ne­so­ta (1919–24); and Pro­fess­or of Ho­mi­le­tics, Yale Di­vi­ni­ty School.
