Biography

A farm­er’s son, Sloan stu­died at the Uni­ver­si­ties of Glas­gow, Ed­in­burgh, and Er­lang­en, and gra­du­at­ed from Ed­in­burgh (MA 1859).

He served as col­le­gi­ate min­is­ter of the Free Church, Dal­keith (1864); min­is­ter of the South Free Church, Ab­er­deen (1868); col­le­giate min­is­ter of An­ders­ton Free Church, Glas­gow (1878); and as of 1890 was min­is­ter of the Grange Free Church in Edin­burgh.

Works

He con­trib­ut­ed se­ver­al trans­la­tions from the Ger­man to J. H. Wil­son’s 1865 Ser­vice of Praise.
