Carl Reissiger


Born: Jan­u­a­ry 31, 1798, Bel­zig, Germany.

Died: No­vem­ber 7, 1859, Dres­den, Ger­ma­ny.


Reissiger at­tend­ed the Tho­mas­schule in Leip­zig, Ger­ma­ny, and stu­died mu­sic un­der Johann Schicht, Sa­li­e­ri (1821), and Win­ter (1822). He also stu­died the­o­lo­gy at the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Leip­zig.

In 1824, his first op­e­ra, Di­done Abban­do­na­ta, op­ened in Dres­den. He con­tin­ued to stu­dy mu­sic in France and Italy, then moved to Berlin in 1825.

In his life­time, he wrote over 60 songs, 9 op­er­as, 1 or­a­tor­io, 9 La­tin mass­es, and 4 Ger­man mass­es.
