Myra was the daughter of minister Thomas A. Goodwin. In 1885, she married Samuel Plantz, who was president of Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin (1894–1924).
She attended Mount Vernon Seminary in Washington, DC; taught at DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana; and worked in evangelism for the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
