John was the father of composer Edward Naylor.
He studied under Robert Burton, and became organist at Scarborough in 1856, and at York Minster in 1883.
He was elected an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in 1895.
If you know where to get a good photo of Naylor (head-and-shoulders, at least 200×300 pixels), would you ?
