Biography

Louisa was the daugh­ter of Ca­leb Will­iam Lor­ing and Eli­za­beth Smith Pea­bo­dy.

She lived most of her life with her sis­ter Ka­ther­ine in Prides Cross­ing, Mas­sa­chu­setts.

She was Emer­gen­cy Sec­re­ta­ry for the Mas­sa­chu­setts Red Cross, and was found­er and pre­si­dent of Aik­en Cot­tages, a South Ca­ro­li­na tu­ber­cu­lo­sis sa­ni­tar­i­um.

She and Ka­the­rine helped ma­ny caus­es, in­clud­ing the Be­ver­ly Anti-Tu­ber­cu­lo­sis So­cie­ty, aid for the vict­ims of the Great Sa­lem Fire of 1914, and aid for Bul­gar­i­an school child­ren.
