Biography

Hatfield was edu­cat­ed at Mid­dle­bu­ry Col­lege, Ver­mont, and at An­do­ver.

He served as pas­tor of the Se­cond Pres­by­te­ri­an Church, St. Lou­is, Mis­sou­ri (1832–35).

In 1835, he moved to New York, where he was pas­tor of the Se­venth Pres­by­te­ri­an Church, then at the North Pres­by­te­ri­an Church (1856–63).

From 1846, he was Stat­ed Clerk of the Pres­by­te­ri­an Ge­ne­ral As­sem­bly.

In 1864 he was ap­point­ed spe­cial agent to the Un­ion Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry, New York.
