Biography

Ann was the daugh­ter of Isaac Tay­lor, and sis­ter of Jane Tay­lor. A at the time Ann’s birth, her father was a Lon­don en­gra­ver; He sub­se­quent­ly be­came a Con­gre­ga­tion­al min­is­ter, liv­ing first at Col­ches­ter, then at Ong­ar.

In 1813, she mar­ried Rev. Jo­seph Gil­bert, a clas­si­cal and ma­the­ma­tics tu­tor at the Con­gre­ga­tion­al College, Mas­brough (near Roth­er­ham), York­shire. From Mas­brough they moved to Hull, and lat­er Not­ting­ham.
