Biography

Eleazar was the son of Na­than­iel Fitch and Ma­ry Thomp­son.

He mar­ried three times—to Eli­za­beth Lu­cia Woos­ter (1817), Su­san Au­gu­sta Root (1822), and Ma­ry Cof­fin Lunt.

He gra­du­at­ed from Yale Col­lege in 1810, and was a Pro­fess­or of Di­vi­ni­ty there, 1817–63.

With Le­on­ard Ba­con and oth­ers, he com­piled the Con­nec­ti­cut Con­gre­ga­tion­al Psalms & Hymns for Chris­tian Use and Wor­ship in 1845. He con­tribut­ed three psalm ver­sions and three hymns to it .
