Died: June 9, 1877, Pit­loch­ry, Perth­shire, Scot­land.

Biography

David was the son of James Ru­ther­ford Drum­mond of Strag­reath, Perth­shire, Scot­land.

After stu­dy­ing at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ed­in­burgh, Drum­mond went to Ox­ford, where he gra­du­at­ed BA.

He was or­dained a priest in 1831, and, af­ter serv­ing at va­ri­ous lo­ca­tions, be­came, in 1838, joint min­is­ter of Tri­ni­ty Epis­co­pal Church, Dean Bridge, Ed­in­burgh.

He re­signed his charge and se­vered his con­nect­ion with the Scot­tish Epis­co­pal Church in 1843, when he be­came min­is­ter of a church built for him (St. Tho­mas’ Eng­lish Epis­co­pal Church, Ed­in­burgh), where he con­tin­ued to min­is­ter to a large con­gre­ga­tion un­til his death.

Works

Several of his hymns ap­peared in the 1838 Church of Eng­land Hymn­book, which he joint­ly ed­it­ed with Ro­bert K. Gre­ville, a mem­ber of his con­gre­ga­tion.
