Biography

Dexter gra­du­at­ed from Yale Uni­ver­si­ty (1840) and An­do­ver Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry (1844), and was a lead­ing au­thor­i­ty on the Pil­grims of Ply­mouth Col­o­ny.

A mem­ber of the North Con­gre­ga­tion­al Church in New Bed­ford, Mas­sa­chu­setts, he com­mut­ed to Bos­ton, where he ed­it­ed The Con­gre­ga­tion­alist ma­ga­zine.
