Biography

Davis at­tend­ed his first sing­ing school at age 19, and at 20 be­gan teach­ing. Af­ter con­duct­ing at near­ly 50 schools, he at­tend­ed his first ses­sion of John M. Bow­man’s Am­er­ican Nor­mal School of Mu­sic at El­lis­ville, Mis­sis­sip­pi.

Davis lat­er at­tend­ed nu­mer­ous oth­er ses­sions of that school in Georg­ia and Ten­nes­see, re­ceiving a di­plo­ma at the close of the third ses­sion. He taught in a to­tal of more than 100 sing­ing schools, as far west as Lou­isi­ana.

As of 1904, he was liv­ing in States­bo­ro, Georg­ia.
