Biography

John was the ne­phew of John Hol­land, bio­gra­ph­er of James Mont­go­me­ry and au­thor of the Brit­ish Psal­mists.

He was edu­cat­ed at the Col­le­gi­ate School in Shef­field, and was man­ag­er of the Shef­field and Roth­er­ham Bank.

But he found time for both hymn writ­ing and mu­sic. Most of his hymns and some of his tunes were writ­ten for the Shef­field Wes­ley­an Sun­day School Un­ion.
