Born: Ju­ly 18, 1842, Wai­ma­te, New Zea­land.

Died: Jan­ua­ry 10, 1923, Marl­bo­rough, Wilt­shire, Eng­land.

Biography

William was the son of Will­iam Bam­bridge of Wind­sor, Berk­shire, and grand­son of George White Bam­bridge of Nor­wich, Nor­folk.

He moved to Eng­land at age six. For a while, he was a cho­ris­ter at St. George’s, Wind­sor. By age 10, he was play­ing the or­gan at Clew­er.

He at­tend­ed Ox­ford Uni­ver­si­ty (MusB 1872), and lat­er moved to Marl­bo­rough and mar­ried Lou­isa Ma­ria Coombs, al­so a pro­fes­sor of mu­sic, in Sep­tem­ber, 1885 (they had one son, al­so called Will­iam Sam­uel, born 1889).

Bambridge served as or­gan­ist and choir mas­ter at Marl­bo­rough Col­lege (1864–1911).
