He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

In pastures green, by waters still,
He leadeth, and I follow;
Not wholly trusting to His will,
I murmur as I follow—
O Lord, If I Thy servant be,
Hast Thou no service, then, for me?
Here lies no task—no toil for thee;
In duty let me follow.
But over steeps and mountain height,
He since hath bade me follow;
In stormy days or darksome night,
I’ve sometimes feared to follow,
My will athwart His own I’ve laid,
And thus a heavy burden made,
Nor knew its meaning, till He said,
Take up thy cross and follow.
But ah, the burden lighter grows,
As further on I follow;
His hand the pathway brighter shows
When close to Him I follow,
Supported by His staff and rod,
I know the path my Master trod
Will surely lead me up to God—
If trustfully I follow.
