The gloomy night will soon be past,
The morn­ing will ap­pear;
The rays of bless­èd light at last
Each wait­ing eye will cheer.
Thou bright and Morn­ing Star, Thy light
Will to our joy be seen;
Thou, Lord, wilt meet our long­ing sight
Without a cloud be­tween.
Ah, yes! Lord Je­sus, Thou, whose heart
Still for Thy saints doth care;
We shall be­hold Thee as Thou art,
Thy per­fect like­ness bear.

Thy love sus­tains us on our way,
While pil­grims here be­low;
Thou dost, O Sav­ior, day by day,
The suit­ed grace be­stow.
But O the more we learn of Thee,
And Thy rich mer­cy prove,
The more we long Thy face to see,
And ful­ly know Thy love.
Then shine, Thou bright and Morn­ing Star,
Dispel the drea­ry gloom;
Oh! take from sin and grief afar,
Thy blood-bought peo­ple home!
