Lyrics

The sky above was cloudless,
The sun shone clear and bright,
The world seemed full of gladness,
And birds sang with delight;
But soon the sky grew gloomy,
Dark shadows I could see,
Ere long I heard a whisper,
Come closer, child, to Me.

Refrain

Come, oh, come, thou troubled one,
For refuge come to Me!
Come, oh come,
the Savior pleads,
Come closer, child to Me!

I knew it was the Savior,
And quick ran to His side,
And there in sweet submission
Securely did abide;
But still the sky grew darker,
Till light I scarce could see;
Again I heard the whisper,
Come closer, child, to Me.

Refrain

I then gave all to Jesus,
And leaned upon His breast;
He filled my soul with sweet peace,
And gave me perfect rest;
And now, tho’ storms are raging,
My heart from fear is free,
For I belong to Jesus,
And He belongs to me.
