Christ the Lord is ris­en to­day;
Listen while the an­gels say:
From His tomb the stone we rolled,
Easter skies were clothed in gold;
Forth in tri­umph Je­sus passed,
Death’s torn bands be­hind Him cast.

Listen while the sol­diers say:
Arms up­lift from rest and sleep,
Sword nor spear the Lord could keep;
Calvary’s mount did rock and reel,
Burst the guard of stone and seal.

Christ the Lord is ris­en to­day;
Listen while the pro­phets say:
Where lay bound His sac­red head,
Death and hell must loose their dead;
Preach it to a cap­tive world,
Easter ban­ners are un­furled.

Listen while His bless­èd lips say:
Graves and seas shall hear My word,
Saints shall wake and hail Me Lord;
Where He soars we lift our heart,
Christ from us death can­not part.
