When to the sleep­ing earth,

Proclaimed a Sav­ior’s birth!

The shep­herds, on Ju­dea’s plains,
With won­der heard their songs,
Glory to God!—to Him alone,
Our high­est praise be­longs.

Glory to God! through heav’n’s broad arch,
The sac­red chorus ran,
Good will, and ne­ver ending peace,
Henceforth to mor­tal man.

Glory to God! let all the earth,
To Him their hon­ors bring,
And ev­ery heart, and ev­ery tongue,
His praise re­spons­ive sing.
