Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.@Luke 2:11

From an 18th Century manuscript in the Bodelian Library at the University of Oxford.

Truro, from Psalmodia Evangelica, by Thomas Williams, 1789 (πŸ”Š pdf nwc).

Awake, ye nations of the earth,
And celebrate the Savior’s birth;
With grateful hearts salute the morn,
On which the Savior, Christ was born.

The shining hosts, on wings of love,
Flew swiftly from the courts above;
With acclamation from the skies,
And seized the shepherds with surprise.

The heavenly choir around did sing:
This day is born the Savior-King.
They swell their notes to praise again,
Glory to God, goodwill to men.
