Zerr was the son of Lawrence Zerr and Mary Manning, and husband of Caroline M. Hill.
Around 1894, Zerr was baptized in the Grand River near Bosworth, Missouri. After marrying in 1900, he and Caroline moved to New Castle, Indiana, where their children were born.
Edward went on to a preaching career of almost six decades.
