Biography

Andrew was the son of Da­vid Young and Mar­ga­ret Mir­ray­lies. He mar­ried twice: to Ma­ria Mi­vart (1844) to Chris­ti­an­ti­na All­an (1851).

He gra­du­at­ed from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Edin­burgh. He was head mas­ter of Nid­drey Street School, Edin­burgh (1830–40), then taught Eng­lish at Ma­dras Coll­ege, St. An­drews.

Young re­tired from St. An­drews in 1853 and lived in Ed­in­burgh, where he was for some time su­per­in­ten­dent of the Green­side Par­ish Sab­bath School.
