Biography

Elizabeth was the daugh­ter of hym­nist Chris­to­pher Words­worth and Su­san­na Hat­ley Frere, and great-niece of po­et Will­iam Words­worth.

In 1879, she be­came the found­ing prin­ci­pal of La­dy Mar­ga­ret Hall, Ox­ford. In 1886, she used an in­her­it­ance from her fa­ther to found St Hugh’s Col­lege, in north Ox­ford.
