Woodward attended Harrow School and Gonville and Caius College at Cambridge University (BA in honors 1872, MA 1875). Ordained in 1874, he served as Curate at St. Barnabas, Pimlico (1847-82 & 1894-99); Vicar at Little Walsingham, Norfolk (1882-88); Rector at Chelmondiston, Suffolk (1888-94); and Curate at St. Mark’s Marylebone (1903-06). After retiring, he moved to Bloomsbury, then Highgate in 1916. His works include:
