Son of Dr. John Woodhull of Freehold, New Jersey, Alfred attended Princeton Un­i­ver­si­ty and the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Penn­syl­van­ia. He practiced medicine in Marietta, Penn­syl­van­ia, and Princeton, New Jersey. His lectures to the U.S. Infantry and Calvary School were published 62 years after his death as:
