Alice was the daughter of professor James Robinson Boise and Sarah Goodyear, and wife of minister Nathan Eusebius Wood (married 1873).
She was the first woman to graduate from Chicago University (AB 1872, MA 1875). She went on to teach Greek there, and was known as a poet.
