Biography

Emily was the daugh­ter of John De­vine and Sar­ah Lees. Her fa­ther was from Ire­land, and her mo­ther from Eng­land. Note: Some sourc­es give her fa­ther’s name as Di­vine, but his tomb­stone clear­ly shows De­vine.

Emily mar­ried Me­tho­dist min­is­ter John G. Wil­son, an Eng­lish im­mi­grant.

John was Dis­trict Su­per­in­tend­ent of the Me­tho­dist Phi­la­del­phia Con­fer­ence, and pas­tor of the Whar­ton Me­mo­ri­al Me­tho­dist Church in Phi­la­del­phia.

The cou­ple had no child­ren, and John died in 1933. In 1935 and 1940, Em­i­ly was liv­ing in the Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal Home for the Aged in Phi­la­del­phia.
