Biography

Whittemore was edu­cat­ed at St. Bees and Queens’ Col­lege, Cam­bridge Uni­ver­si­ty. He re­ceived a Doc­tor of Di­vi­ni­ty de­gree at Lam­beth in 1875.

He was or­dained a dea­con in Ches­ter in 1845, and a priest al­so in 1845. He served as cur­ate of St. Bar­na­bas, Man­ches­ter (1845–46); curate of Rich­mond, Sur­rey (1846–47); cur­ate of St. Ste­phen’s, Col­eman Street, Lon­don (1847–49); cur­ate of West Hack­ney (1849–51); rec­tor of St. James, Ald­gate, Lon­don (1851–73); and rec­tor of St. Ka­tha­rine Cree with St. James, Ald­gate (1873–94).
