Biography

Henry was the son of Hen­ry Da­van & Sar­ah Wet­ton of Hay­ward’s Heath, Sus­sex.

He began his mu­sic­al ca­reer as a cho­ris­ter at St. Ma­ry’s Church, Stoke New­ing­ton. He lat­er served as or­gan­ist at All Saints’ Church, Stoke New­ing­ton (1877–84); Christ Church, Wo­burn Square (1884–86); St. Ga­bri­el’s Church, Pim­li­co (1886–89 & 1890–93).

He was al­so sub-or­gan­ist at Wells Ca­thed­ral (1890); as­sist­ant or­gan­ist to Fred­er­ick Bridge at West­min­ster Ab­bey (1881–96); or­gan­ist and choir­mas­ter, Finch­ley Par­ish Church (1892–93); or­gan­ist and cho­rus mas­ter, Queen’s Hall Cho­ral So­cie­ty (1893–94 sea­son); or­gan­ist and choir­mas­ter, St. Paul’s, Finch­ley (1895–96); and or­gan­ist at Al­ex­an­dra Palace (1901).

He con­duct­ed the choir of the Peo­ple’s Pal­ace (1902–03); played the or­gan and di­rect­ed the choir at the Found­ling Hos­pi­tal, Lon­don; and head­ed the Mu­sic De­part­ment at North­amp­ton In­sti­tute, Clerk­en­well.
