Wetherington was a bass singer with the Gospel groups Sunny South Quartet, Melody Masters Quartet, and the Statesmen (1949).
He was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 1977, and the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 1997.
