Washington graduated from the Clover Street Seminary, Rochester, New York, in 1856. Many of her poems and hymns were published in a volume titled Echoes of Song. In addition to hymn writing, she was a lecturer and organizer for the Iowa Women’s Christian Temperance Union in the 1880s. Her husband was Shadrach Washington.
