Biography

Samuel was the son of Er­ik An­ders­son Wall­gren and Mar­ti­na Matt­son, and hus­band of Ruth Ad­re­na Swan­son.

He gra­du­at­ed from the North Park Aca­de­my in 1902, and from North Park Jun­ior Col­lege in 1904.

He earned AB and AM de­grees from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Chi­ca­go, and in 1909 was elect­ed to Phi Be­ta Kap­pa.

He taught high school for one year in Ga­ry, In­di­ana, then re­turned to North Park as an Eng­lish teach­er in 1909.

He was ap­point­ed re­gis­trar in 1912, and served in that role u­ntil 1937. He was al­so aca­dem­ic dean from 1918 un­til his death.

The Wall­gren Lib­ra­ry at North Park Uni­ver­si­ty is named af­ter him.
