Lydia was the daughter of Jones and Lydia Very.

She published a volume of verses (Andover, Massachusetts: W. F. Draper, 1865), and contributed to other offerings to various Boston and Salem newspapers. She is remembered as poet and children’s book author and illustrator. With her sister, Frances Eliza, she taught school in Salem for three decades.
