Biography

Vandersloot was the son of phy­si­cian Fred­er­ick Will­iam Van­der­sloot and Eli­za E. Crouse, and hus­band of Co­ra Elwert. His grand­fa­ther was a Ger­man Re­formed Church pas­tor, and a hymn writ­er.

His fa­mi­ly moved to Clin­ton Coun­ty, Penn­syl­van­ia, when he was a child.

In 1889, he be­gan work­ing at a mu­sic pub­lish­er in Will­iams­port, Penn­syl­van­ia. With­in a de­cade, he had found­ed the Van­der­sloot Mu­sic Com­pa­ny, which he ran un­til sell­ing the com­pa­ny in 1930.

For 28 years, he led the choir at the Pine Street Me­thod­ist Epis­co­pal Church in Will­iams­port (James Black was one of the choir mem­bers).
