Turney graduated from Madison Un­i­ver­si­ty in New York, and was successively pastor at Hartford and Granville, Ohio (1842–47); Professor of Biblical Criticism, Madison Un­i­ver­si­ty (1850); and Professor of Biblical Literature at Fairmount The­o­lo­gi­cal Sem­in­a­ry, Cin­cin­na­ti, Ohio (1853–58). He also taught in Washington, DC. His works in­clude:
