Biography

Samuel was the son of Ed­ward Fran­cis Tuck­er­man and So­phia May, and hus­band of Mary Oliv­ia Ed­wards Per­ry.

He at­tend­ed Chaun­cy Hall School in Bos­ton, and stu­died mu­sic un­der Charles Zeu­ner there.

In 1840 he be­came or­gan­ist and choir mas­ter at St. Paul’s Epis­co­pal Church in Bos­ton. He stu­died ca­thed­ral mu­sic in Eng­land for four years, re­turn­ing to Bos­ton in 1853.

He went to England again in 1856, this time stay­ing un­til 1864, as well as spend­ing se­ver­al years in Swit­zer­land.

In 1864, he be­came or­gan­ist at Tri­ni­ty Church, New York Ci­ty.
