Biography

George was the son of George Timms and An­nie Eli­za­beth Boorne.

He was edu­cat­ed at Der­by School and St. Ed­mund Hall, Ox­ford (BA 1933, MA 1945), and stu­died at the Col­lege of the Re­sur­rec­tion, Mir­field.

He was or­dained a dea­con in 1935, and priest in 1936. He held cur­a­cies at St. Ma­ry Mag­da­len, Cov­en­try, and St. Bar­tho­lo­mew, Read­ing, and was Ox­ford Di­o­ces­an In­spec­tor of Schools (1944–49).

He was sac­rist of South­wark Ca­thed­ral (1949–52), then vi­car of St. Ma­ry, Prim­rose Hill, un­til 1965. Af­ter this he was rur­al dean of Hamp­stead; vi­car of St. An­drew, Hol­born; and fin­al­ly, se­cond arch­dea­con of Hack­ney (1971–81).
