Maria was the daughter of Richard Philip Goldsworthy Tiddeman, who was perpetual curate of North Hinksey, Berkshire, before he became rector of Fingest with Ibstone, Oxfordshire, in 1866.
Maria studied music at Oxford University, and, as of 1881, was listed as a Professor of Music.
She is remembered as a composer of tunes, songs, part songs, and anthems.
She never married.
