Biography

Clara was the daugh­ter of Ro­bert Hep­worth, some­time per­pe­tu­al cur­ate of Tred­ding­ton, Glou­ces­ter­shire, and wife of H. G. Thwaites, who (as of 1905) was vi­car of Lim­ber Mag­na, Lin­coln­shire (mar­ried 1869).

Her ear­li­est po­et­ic ef­forts were pub­lished in The Youth’s Ma­ga­zine. Start­ing in 1880, she con­trib­ut­ed ex­ten­sive­ly to the Sun­day Ma­ga­zine, The Girl’s Own Pa­per, Home Words, The Fire­side, and oth­er pub­li­ca­tions. Ma­ny of her hymns were writ­ten for the Church Mis­sion­ary Glean­er.
