In 1909, Thomas was mentioned as being the musical director at Ocean Grove, New Jersey.

He was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as of 1914, and was associated with the Methodist Episcopal Church.

He served as a choir director at least a decade, and his name is sometimes shown with the title Professor, indicating he was probably a teacher.
