Daughter of engraver and Con­gre­ga­tion­al minister Isaac Tay­lor, and sister of hymnist Ann Tay­lor Gil­bert, Jane’s gift for writing verse displayed itself at an early age. Her first piece was printed in the 1804 Minor’s Pocket Book. In the secular world, she is remembered as the author of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Her works in­clude:
