Biography

Studwell was the son of Al­fred Theo­dore and Al­ice B. Stud­well, and hus­band of Ann Marie Stro­ia.

He earned bach­e­lor’s and mas­ter’s de­grees in his­to­ry from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Con­nec­ti­cut, and a mas­ter’s in lib­ra­ry sci­ence from the Cath­ol­ic Uni­ver­si­ty of Am­er­ica.

An aca­dem­ic lib­rar­i­an by pro­fes­sion, he was a pro­li­fic au­thor, pro­duc­ing about 400 ar­ti­cles and doz­ens of books.

He was known for his ex­per­tise on U. S. Lib­ra­ry of Con­gress sub­ject head­ings, Christ­mas ca­rols, and col­lege fight songs.

He re­tired in 2001 from North­ern Il­li­nois Uni­ver­si­ty, where he was the Prin­ci­pal Cat­a­log­uer at Found­ers Me­mo­ri­al Lib­ra­ry.
