Stoddart’s family moved to Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands when she was a child. She joined the Salvation Army (SA) in 1886, held several corps positions in Scotland, then in Women’s Social Work. After marrying SA Captain William Stoddart, they served in Bristol; Devenport, Devon; and Mousehole, Cornwall; then in America.
