Sthen is one of the best known 16th Century Danish hymnists. His parents died early, and at age 21, he became a headmaster in Helsingør. The next year, he became Curate at St. Olai Church in Helsingør. In 1580, he earned an MA degree at the University of Copenhagen. He became Rector of St. Peder Church in Malmö in 1583, and retired in 1607. His works include:
