Biography

Sthen is one of the best known 16th Cen­tu­ry Dan­ish hym­nists.

His par­ents died ear­ly, and at age 21, he be­came a head­mas­ter in Hel­sing­ør. The next year, he be­came cur­ate at St. Olai Church in Hel­sing­ør.

In 1580, he earned an MA de­gree at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Co­pen­ha­gen.

He be­came rec­tor of St. Pe­der Church in Mal­mö in 1583, and re­tired in 1607.
