Stenholm started out as a bookbinder, but later became a minister, serving in Norrköping, Malmköping, and Göteborg. In 1874, he became editor of the Swedish Methodist church’s Lilla Sändebudet. After a short stint as pastor in Galva, Illinois, he returned to Sweden, and worked in Karlskrona, Uppsala, and Gälve.
